Obituary

Paula Victoria Matthews Davis, 59, was called home to be with the Lord on June 20, 2017.

Born in Olney, Maryland on August 21, 1957, Paula was the daughter of the late Paul Adams and Carol Matthews. She primarily grew up in Sandy Spring, Maryland where she was educated in the public schools of Montgomery County, as well as public schools in Berkeley, California where she graduated from Berkeley High School in 1975, and later pursued a career in Home Health Care.

"Smoothie" as she was known to many, was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and loving friend. Paula truly loved and cherished her family and the time they spent together. Her bright and funny personality was genuine and even with that big smile it would captivate everyone's attention. Paula would always say that she felt like a "celebrity" whenever she'd attend any function with family and friends because of everyone calling her name, wanting to take pictures, laughing, dancing, and just paying her that special attention.

Paula would always have you laughing; she had a heart of gold and would open her home to many friends and family, even if it meant she'd go without. Her house became the "home away from home." She had a very difficult life with circumstances out of her control, she loved and nurtured with every part of her being, even parts that the hurt tried to take away; she always made people feel loved, safe, and happy.

Paula had a charismatic charm about her. She was a one-of-a-kind courageous woman who would tell it like it is with absolutely no cut-cards. Even if you didn't want her opinion, she gave it with no filter and still had a profound impact on your life whether you've known her for 10 years or 10 minutes.

Paula rededicated her life to Christ in the spring of 2014 under the leadership of Resurrection Baptist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Paula leaves to celebrate her life two daughters, April Gordon and Angel Davis; one god-daughter, Mesha Parrott; stepson, Phillip Davis and other stepchildren; five grandchildren, Janee' Embry, Jaquesse Gordon, Diallo Dockery, Jr., Brandyn Matthews, and Bryanna Matthews; and one great-grandchild, Jrue Ford. She is also survived by two siblings, Linda Howard and Rodney Arter; four stepsisters, Sondra McCain, Jennifer Arter, Rita Jackson, and Trina Arter; one stepbrother, George Arter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many sister-friends. Paula is preceded in death by her parents Paul Adams and Carol Matthews; husband, Delroy Davis; children, Alicia Davis, Daryl Lash, Jr., and Rashad Matthews; and a very loving friend, Stephen Gibson, Jr.
