In Loving Memory

Obituary

Robert Ernest Jones was born in New Hampshire on March 5, 1934; the only child of the late Robert and Margie Langford Jones. When he was only 18 months old, he relocated with his parents to Florida where he was raised and attended school. At age 17 Robert (Bobby) moved to Washington DC and joined the United States Air Force. Shortly after his honorable discharge, he met and married Norma Holton. From that union of 61 years four sons – Robert Ernest, Anthony Donald, Clinton Xavier, and Eric Christopher – were born.

Bobby was an extremely hard, dedicated worker and retired in 1985 from the US Department of Health, Education and Welfare. Never one for being idle, he went back to work at Arlington Armature and only stopped working in 2017 for health reasons.

Bobby was a special man that would do anything for anyone – often leaving unexpected gifts at your front door – never asking for or expecting anything in return. He was very well read and could (and would) speak knowledgably, and at length, on many topics. Bobby loved sports and was a Dallas Cowboys fan, rejecting the Redskins franchise in the 1950's because of the team's early stance on race. Bobby was socially conscience before "Staying Woke" was a thing! He was so much of a jokester that when he was being serious he would say "No, I'm being serious now" or "Seriously, no, seriously...."

He believed that you don't have to have money to be happy…acknowledging that it did help but it was not needed. He encouraged others, especially his sons, to make do with what you have. The finer things in life cannot be purchased, they are not material; it is what is instilled, what is taught, learned and absorbed in each family and each generation, and then carried forward.

Bobby leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife Norma; four sons, Robert, Anthony (Joyce); Clinton (Pam); Eric (Linda); eight grandchildren, Carlos, Tanika (Daniel), Daniel, Alisa, Joseph, Steven, Jacqueline and Anthony; seven great grandchildren, Iziah, Daniel, Journey, Messiah, Lola, Aiden and Ariana; and a host of other relatives and friends.
